Developers of new residential and commercial buildings in Sharjah will have to abide by the green building regulations beginning next year, which forms a part of official campaign to conserve energy in the emirate.
The Assistant Director-General for government projects at Sharjah Municipality, Sultan Al Mualla, said that the new rules are likely to be announced in January 2009 and implemented immediately thereafter.
He said the government of Sharjah plans to issue several regulations to developers for all upcoming buildings.
The Technical Affairs Section at the Municipality is now preparing a resolution to implement the specifications for ‘green’ buildings, he revealed.
The government plans to implement all environment-friendly elements, including sustainability of the site, value-added real estate, types of materials used, solar power, and water and energy management.
All the buildings will have to meet the ‘green’ building specifications in its new premises that are under construction, apart from new shopping center in Al Khalidiya area.
The Government of Sharjah, together with the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey, and the Directorate of Public Works and the Sharjah Municipality, aims to implement the ‘green’ building system in an efficient manner. Posted on 26/11/2008
