Nakheel has unveiled the Omran workforce accommodation in Dubai, thereby introducing Dubai to a new standard of workforce accommodation, which offers better quality of life to construction workers and hospitality staff in Dubai, commented Shehab Al Orabi, the Senior Development Manager, Waterfront, Nakheel.
The hotel industry in the Middle East alone, will, require more than 1.5million staff towards the year 2010, and hence finding a proper accommodation for these staff is currently one of the biggest challenges in the hospitality industry.
Hence Nakheel is on its way to increase and improve the labor accommodation, as it believes that a happy workforce is a productive workforce.
Being the first workforce accommodation of its kind, Omran will have about 60,000 bed facilities on completion. The cost of living for the construction workforce will begin with Dh.55 per person per day, while for the hospitality workforce the price begins with Dh.70 per person each day. The staff will be required to stay for a minimum of one year.
Omran, will be located in the Jabel Ali area, in close proximity to Palm Jebel Ali. It will include an air conditioned, fully furnished facility, with prayer areas, library, laundry services, and medical clinic, and will provide three meals a day to its residents. Other amenities such as a supermarket, barber shop, postal services and ATMs are also present within the facility.
Phase I of the development, which is nearing completion, will have the capacity to accommodate 10,000 workers. It will include 5000 beds for staff in construction sector, comprising 100% male population, and another 5000 beds will be reserved for hotel sector, comprising 80% male and 20% female population.
For Phase II, Nakheel is planning family type accommodation, due to huge demand for this type of facility.
