The Abu Dhabi Municipality is currently building about 349 residential towers at Madinat Mohammed bin Zayed, Abu Dhabi. The towers are expected to accommodate 30,142 apartments with various sizes. About 75% of the apartments will be single-bedroom units, while the rest would be double-bedrooms.
The project is initiated by the Abu Dhabi government, with an aim to address the housing shortage problem, revealed Dr. Jawan bin Salim Al Dhahiri, Head of the Municipal Affairs Department, at the Abu Dhabi Municipality.
He said that the housing expansion project is inclusive of the implementation of infrastructural works such as rainwater drainage, sewerage, electricity, roads, landscaping, water and construction of mosques, schools and health clinics.
The municipality is also in co-ordination with the landowners of the towers and other engineers to enable them to chalk-out the required designs for erecting residential towers to make main blueprints for the underground paths of the infrastructure.
The municipality will take into consideration the aspect of public transportation too, depending on the size of the population there.
The construction of the entire project is likely to be complete by June 2012.
In yet another development, the Aldar Properties in Abu Dhabi is planning for a residential development around the old cemetery in the Al Bateen area. Aldar is working with the Committee of Islamic Endowment (Awqaf) and the Urban Development Committee to rehabilitate the landscaped area. More details of the project are yet to be revealed.
