The ninth edition of ‘Eid in Dubai’ begins today, opening a galore of entertainment activities, which include concerts by icons in music field, world-class entertainment plays, spectacular firework displays and shopping deals across the city.
Organized by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), the ‘Eid in Dubai – Eid Al Adha’ celebrations will be held for 10 days from 8th to 17th September.
The line-up of events and activities will reflect the theme ‘United in Celebration’ of the citywide festivities dedicated to people from all cultures and communities. Among the highlights of this year’s ‘Eid in Dubai’ celebrations are live concerts featuring popular Arabic singers Rabeh Saqer and Shamma Hamdan, apart from Pakistani singer and Sufi maestro Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Meanwhile, a Looney Tunes show featuring Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny, apart from fireworks display and other family-oriented events will be held in malls across Dubai.
Eid shoppers will have the opportunity to win prizes worth up to Dh.1.5million in the ‘Shop, Spin & Win’ promotion, run by DFRE, together with Dubai Shopping Malls Group.
Listed below a line-up of events for Eid celebrations this year:
Dubai Concerts – 13th & 16th September, Dubai World Trade Centre
Live concerts by iconic Arab singers, Mohamed Abdo Rabeh Saqer and Shamma Hamdan will be the highlight, offering world-class entertainment. This is organized in collaboration with Rotana, and forms a part of line-up of events during Eid celebrations this year. 13th September will involve performance by Rabeh Saqer and 16th September will be a performance by Shamma Hamdan.
Fireworks Show - 11th to 16th September, The Beach (opposite JBR)
Residents and visitors get to watch breath-taking fireworks display that light up the skies above ‘The Beach’ daily for six nights straight, starting 8.30pm.
‘Shop, Spin & Win’ – until 17th September in all malls of DSMG
Residents and visitors to Dubai can look forward to a rewarding shopping experience this Eid, as an innovative retail promotion, named ‘Shop, Spin &
Win’, by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), together with Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG) would enable shoppers spending minimum Dh.200 will have a chance to win prizes worth Dh.1.5mn.
‘Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’ – Live in concert – 16th September, Dubai World Trade Centre
Pakistani singer and Sufi maestro UStad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan would perform live one night in Dubai as part of the celebrations. Rahat is expected to play all his biggest Bollywood hits and Qawwali classics during the spectacular three hour show.
‘Looney Tunes Show’ – 8th to 18th September
The show features Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and Taz in ‘What Stole My Chicken’, and will provide live entertainment for the whole family. The show will run for 10 days fromn 8th to 18th September. Enjoy the fabulous show, ‘Meet and Greet’ sessions and workshop.
Eid in Dubai TV show, Souk Atrium, The Dubai Mall – 8th to 17th September
A live TV show featuring ‘Eid in Dubai’ celebration will be aired by Sama Dubai TV, offering prizes to winners in games and competitions. The show will have its entire studio set up at the Souk Atrium in The Dubai Mall. The show offers more than Dh.20,000 by way of prizes to the winners.
Workshop and Parade – Iftah Ya Simsim Live Show – ‘Forever Friends Picnic’ - 8th to 18th September, Dragon Mart 2
Based on popular Arabic entertainment series for children, the Iftah Ya Simsim live show will make its debut in Dubai in Dragon Mart 2, accompanied by fund and educational workshop. You can also enjoy the ‘colour workshops’ and a range of arts and craft activities for kids at Dragon Mart2 this Eid.
The ‘Forever Friends Picnic’ is a delightful garden themed event, which welcomes families with story-telling, arts and crafts, and Meet and Greet the giant Forever Friends bears!
Mall of Emirates - 10th to 17th September - Eid Al Adha entertainment
Visitors to Mall of Emirates can enjoy a visual treat this Eid, as they get to watch the amazing themed entrance entertainment concepts – Human puppet, top hat tapping bunnies, toy music band, and three more themed roaming acts and shows, namely, ‘The Toy Maker’, ‘The Dolls’, and ‘The Soldiers’.
Comey Illusion Show - 8th to 17th September City Centre, Mirdiff
The comedy illusion show will bring in an original, fresh specialty illusion by combining stunning illusions with mind-blowing magic and hilarious comedy into an action-packed show just for you.
The Jungle Book - till 17th September, Walk expansion, Multaqa Al Adua'a
The experience is all about family exploring the jungle environment together and creating fun memories. Visitors are taken on the journey deep into Indian Jungle with a feast of visual and audible surroundings. Expect real animals, twisted vines, large trees and foliage. Visitors can enjoy experiences like taming the tiger, feeding the monkey or planting a tree too.
Nickelodeon PlayPark, ‘The Spark’ - 8th to 26th September- Dubai Festival City Mall
Visit Dubai Festival City Mall and experience a free interactive Nickelodeon PlayPark for the first time in Dubai as part of ‘Eid in Dubai’ celebrations. You can expect loads of family fun at the themed zones in the mall atrium, Festival Square with Shimmer and Shine, Paw Patrol, Sponge Bob and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The PlayPark is free for kids of all ages.
‘The Spark’ to be held at Dubai Festival City Mall is a medium scale street threatre show by seven characters that combine high impact drumming, dynamic choreography and well-lit designs.
Roaming acts and prizes - 12th to 17th September, Mercato
Mercato is offering families the opportunity to enjoy Eid to remember with special entertainment activities, roaming acts, kids’ workshop conducted by the artistes, including painting and themed arts and craft activities. There are ‘shop and win’ promotional offers for shoppers spending Dh.200 at any shopping outlet at Mercato or Town Centre Jumeirah during Eid. They will be entitled to receive a coupon for the raffle draw, offering any one prize – Gulf Cruise for a family of four by Imagine Cruising, jewellery prizes worth Dh.30,000 or one of the Macbooks from iStyle.
‘Teddy & Otto’, ‘The Couch’, ‘Al Capone Jazz Band’ ‘Circus Follies’ – 8th to 17th September – Dragon Mart 2, Mall of Emirates, City Centre Deira, Mall of Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall
Meet Otto the Otter and Teddy the forx, the friendliest but funny characters you are likely to meet as they wander through the crowd telling fairy tales and woodland magic. They invited anyone who wishes to test their knowledge at a quiz of fairytale fantasy.
Meanwhile, two artis will join together to pose as a Livin Couch, singing and creating fun ambience for all those seated in the Couch!
A roaming music act from Italy, the ‘Al Capone Jazz Band’ will feature unique repertoire of classic Jazz and Swing music that involves the entire audience in singing and clapping, as part of ‘Eid in Dubai – Eid Al Adha’ celebrations.
‘Circus Follies’, a magnificent comic juggling street act from Italy features super equilibrist performers using unique techniques and comedy animation.
Eid Al Adha at Wafi – 10th to 15th September
Join Eid celebrations at Wafi, with your family, and enjoy various activities including traditional dance shows, display of falcon, henna tent and more. Join the photo contest and take a photo of an entertaining show, mall décor or whatever triggers your creativity, and upload to the mall’s Facebook for a chance to win one of the three prizes – Dh.7000, Dh.10,000 and Dh.3000.
