Air India Express begins direct flight from New Delhi to Dubai

17 May 2016

Air India Express, the budget international subsidiary of government-run Air India, has begun direct services from New Delhi to the Gulf, with the first flight to Dubai, all set to take off.

The entry of Air India’s international budget arm into New Delhi will increase the competition of the lucrative Gulf routes from New Delhi as other Indian carriers have also increased their frequencies recently, like for instance, Indigo, Spice Jet, and Jet Airways, have flights on Gulf routes.

Air India Express will operate two direct flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi daily. The New Boeing 737-800 aircraft with capacity to carry 189 passengers are being deployed on the route.

The Inaugural flight to Dubai took off with 166 passengers from New Delhi at 9.05am on Sunday, the 15th May. The daily flight to Abu Dhabi will get effective from Monday, said an Air India Express in its release.

Headquartered in Kochi, the Air India Express flies from 13 places across the country to several destinations in the Middle East and South-East Asia.
