Living in Dubai
Dubai Metro Fares
The Dubai Metro is another example to shown Dubai as a fast growing and developing country. By using the latest technology, the driver-less metro network is fully automotive and has made travelling easier than ever. The stations and trains are properly air conditioned to facilitate the people in having a comfortable ride and relieve them from the scorching heat of the sun. The timings for the Metro train are from 6:00AM to 11:00PM and it operates from Saturday to Thursday. On Fridays, that is officially an off day in Dubai, the train runs from 2:00PM to midnight.
The Dubai Metro fares are quite reasonable and have made this service affordable for many people living in the city. The fares range from Dh 1.80 to Dh 6.50. This is the rate for a one way journey and the price of the ticket depends on the distance you wish to cover. It is quite surprising to notice that the Dubai Metro fares and public bus fares are the same for a matching journey in distance.
The children till the age of five years of age and up to 90 centimeters tall can travel free of cost on the Dubai Metro. Similarly, special Dubai Metro fare discounts are available for the students, the handicapped and for the senior citizens.
To make traveling more economical, the Dubai Metro has introduced passes which anyone can avail depending on the level of travelling. There are daily passes and monthly passes with different price ranges and you can avail any of them by keeping the type of traveling in mind.
The daily passes cost Dh14 and three types of monthly passes of Dh 270, Dh 180 and Dh100 respectively are available as well. These passes were introduced in 2009 and are quite popular ever since then.
To instill responsibility and ownership, the traveler is responsible for the ticket and in case he or she loses it, he or she would have to pay a fine. If the ticket is damaged, the agents at the stations will examine the ticket. Again, a fine is charged if the ticket is deliberately damaged, otherwise it can be easily replaced. Dubai Metro No.1 tickets are valid for ninety days starting from the day of purchase whereas other tickets like No.1 Blue cards or No.1 Golden cards are valid for five years.
