| The UAE labour market currently has more than four million job opportunities on the offer, while there are only 20,000 Emirati graduates, said the UAE Minister of Education, Humaid Al Qutami yesterday. The Minister when speaking on the second day of Education and Requirements of GCC labour market conference, said that to bridge the existing gap between the number of graduates and the job availability in the UAE job market, more attention should be paid to education and more people should be encouraged to learn about social requirements. Although the labour market in the UAE had doubled, and the country’s economic growth has increased, Al Qutami said that there should also be an equal co-ordination among educational institutions, and educational stakeholders, who need to work equally on the data gathering and introduce research and study centres such as the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR). In addition, there needs to be strategic medium and long term plans for education to bear fruit in the UAE, the Minister said. Al Qutami said that the areas that need focus are the development of UAE curricula, particularly, the public schools whose performance levels needs to be closely monitored. Also, more teachers need to be employed who could be a true role model for students, and who are well aware of the requirements by labour markets in order to help guide students.
