About 4000 Emiratis will be ready to join private sector shortly, revealed a senior official at Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Saleh Al Hashemi, the Managing Director of Tawteen, when speaking during the first showcase of Tawteen held at Emirates Palace, mentioned that the programme has been able to empower nationals and improve their skills with about 54,000 or more development hours to prepare Emiratis to work in the private sector. About 4200 Emiratis have been already benefited from the training programmes, ever-since the launch of the initiative in 2007.
Launched by Emirates Foundation, Tawteen is an initiative aimed to empower Emiratis, by bringing out their potential and building career paths to private sector employment.
The Programme offers long-term social and economic benefits, using well-designed development initiatives. The programme includes seven projects such as internships, vocational awareness, counseling, innovation, entrepreneurship, bridge to success, leadership and women in the workplace.
The initiative, which is open throughout UAE, encourages young nationals in the age group 14 to 26 years to join Tawteen, said Team Manager, Inas Abu Sashien. It is an initiative for all Emiratis to help them with their future career in private sector and in turn, to help private sector welcome Emiratis.
In the leadership projects, young Emiratis are taken to day camps which last for two and a half days either in Ras Al Khaimah or in Abu Dhabi.
The Project Manager at Tawteen, Hamda Al Mansouri, mentioned that 650 students have been taking this programme, with 281 being females, who have already learnt the practical skills of teamwork, leadership and self-awareness.
The initiative helps in breaking the barriers between the private sector and Emiratis, while also changing the stereotypes about Emiratis. The project also helps families in changing their perspective about future careers in private sector, through awareness evenings held at colleges and schools. Posted on 19/6/2009
