Gulf workers lured by opportunities at home countries

The budding economies in the Asia-Pacific countries are attracting their citizens working in Gulf region, back to their home countries.

One of the most innovative and dynamic energy companies in the world, HESS Corporation has commenced their hunt for skilled manpower in Qatar for its forthcoming projects in Malaysia and Indonesia.

HESS has scheduled two recruitment campaigns in the Gulf region this month, with one in Qatar, on a two-day recruitment drive at the Ritz Carlton. HESS has announced job opportunities in engineering, operations, geosciences, and healthy and safety sectors in Asia-pacific region.

Due to acute shortage of skilled labours, these budding economies are attracting skilled workers from abroad and encouraging citizens working abroad to return to their home countries.

For instance, India, recently called back several thousands of Indian construction workers back home from the Middle East, which indicates that an acute skill shortage is spreading from the professional to lower end of the labour market. India’s largest listed developer, DLF was on the hunt for 20,000 to 25000 workers in the semi-skilled worker category and tradesmen in construction sector in Gulf region.

With booming information technology outsourcing sector to domestic financial sector, India is currently facing shortage of experienced professionals in these sectors. With an unparalleled building boom, the country is running short of skilled construction workers. Various Indian states are planning major projects in infrastructure sector.

To add to this, surging inflation and poor wages of Indian workers in the Gulf have made these workers to feel the call from home country to be more tempting.

Apart from opportunities at home country, skilled Indian workers in Gulf are also being drawn by growing opportunities in Hong Kong, Singapore and China. In fact, Singapore has created a record with 176,000 new jobs last year.

The HESS Corporation has now scheduled a recruitment drive in Doha on 15th and 16th August. The recruitment will take place in Abu Dhabi on 19th and 20th August.
