More job opportunities likely in private sector this year

More private sector jobs are likely this year, as labour policy-makers have expressed confidence that the Kingdom would improve on the employment sector. The restaurant and hotel and finance sectors are likely to be the major job generators. Various new resorts, hotels and waterfront projects are due for completion this year.

The Executive Director, Specific Council for Training in Hotels and Catering Sector, Ali Sulaybeekh, has revealed that about 5000 new job opportunities are expected this year. Thousand more hotels and restaurants are expected this year. This alone would generate about 2000 new jobs.

During the last two years about 10,000 locals were given jobs through national employment and training project. The government has opened assistance schemes to help about 6000 Bahraini job seekers. Also, more job opportunities are expected in the booming retail sector through the opening of new malls, commercial centers, redevelopment projects etc. Even the information technology, banking and health sectors are expected to bring in more jobs.

However, to what extent Bahrainis would be ready to accept jobs in the restaurant and hotels sector needs to be waited and watched, as studies have indicated that most locals prefer working in the public sector.
