The Dubai International Racing Carnival, an annual event held at the Meydan Racecourse, attracts some of the best horses in the world. First held in 2004, the Dubai International Racing Carnival has been re-named as Dubai World Cup Carnival, a change that will align the event with the Dubai World Cup. This marks the ninth season for the carnival, beginning 5th January 2012, while in Meydan Race Course it is for the third time that the racing is being held.
The 3rd Meydan Masters International Jockey Challenge will kick-start the Dubai World Cup Carnival on 5th January 2012, and will run through until the 10th March 2012. It offers more than a million dollars in the form of prize money.
The Dubai World Cup Carnival will see a total of 10 meetings with an early post time schedule of 3pm on Friday dates – 20th January and 3rd February. This season will include the Super Thursday moved over to the weekend, which will now be called Super Saturday. The event, to be held on 10th March at 4:30pm, will conclude the Dubai World Cup Carnival Season.
The Super Saturday event will be a major preparation for the 31st March Dubai World Cup. This season will feature the 17th running of the $26.25mn Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest race. The eighth race card will begin with an Arabian race and conclude with the $10mn World Cup.
The Meydan Racecourse comprises 1750m all-weather surface and 2400 turf course. The unique development, featuring Meydan Grandstand, is a premium racing destination which accommodates nearly 60,000 spectators, and incorporates the world’s first five-star trackside hotel, aptly named The Meydan, apart from other entertainment facilities such as Meydan Grandsuites, Meydan Museums and Gallery, Meydan Marina and Falcon commercial Park free zone offices. Meydan features the world’s first trackside five-star hotel, comprising 285 suites that offer direct views of racing action.
