Dubai World Cup Horse Race 2013
The Dubai World Cup Horse Race is an annual horse racing event, being held in Dubai since the year 1996, and operated by the Emirates Horse Racing Authority (EHRA). The race is an initiative by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and is considered as a fitting tribute to his love of horses and horseracing.
Since the year 2010, the races are being held at the Meydan Racecourse. As for the location, the Meydan Grandstand is home to outstanding restaurants, 72 luxurious hospitality suites, and is an ideal location to entertain guests, offering spectacular views, fine food and racing excitement.
The Dubai World Cup Horse Race, also termed as "world's richest race", worth more than US$10million, is one of the popular sporting events in Dubai, culminating on 30th March 2013. The Dubai World Cup is also classified as “Group 1 Flat Race”, and sponsored by Emirates Airline.
The Dubai World Cup Horse Race, forms part of Dubai World Cup Carnival, the annual racing event comprising several activities held on regular basis. The weekend activities are held for family fun and entertainment. The five-month racing season begins in November 2012 and ends on 31st March 2013.
The entire racing season is divided into three parts – Racing at Meydan, Dubai World Cup Carnival and Dubai World Cup Race Meeting.
The horse racing brings in some of the brightest stars of international horse-racing community. Horsemen from across the world come in to enjoy the race and luxury of competing at the racecourse.
The Meydan Racecourse has an all-weather surface and 2400m turf course. This unique development houses the Meydan Grandstand, involving minimum 60,000 spectators, and includes the first five-star trackside hotel, namely The Meydan, apart from Meydan Grandstand Suites, Meydan Museum and Gallery, Falcon Commercial Park free-zone offices and Meydan Marina.
The 2011-12 racing season at Meydan was an overwhelming experience which involved a gathering of world’s greatest horsemen and horses for the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the famed Dubai World Cup. The 17th running of the Dubai World Cup programme was held on 31st March 2012, which offered not just the record prize money of USD27.25mn, but also featured nine group races, with the 2012 Dubai World Cup having been given to Monterosso(GB).
Now, the 18th edition of the event is to be witnessed this year on the world's richest race-day, the Dubai World Cup. Visitors can choose from a range of tailored hospitality packages at top-class restaurants, private suites and lounges, or join the social action at Apron Views.
The Dubai Racing Club has introduced Dh.25 as General Admission charge for public areas of the racecourse, although children under 12 years of age will be given free admission. The ticket sales are open from Sunday to Thursday between 8am and 8pm, and from 4th November to 29th March prior to entrances Gates B, C and Meydan Grandstands.
