Dubai Marathon 2013

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon and Dubai Half Marathon to be held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is one of the first sporting events on the calendar of the city.

During the months October to June, Standard Chartered marathons are organized in various places including Jersey, Nairobi, Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, Mumbai, Failaka Islands, Hong Kong and Kaula Lumpur. While some participants run in costume, some run for charity, while others participate to push their physical and mental limits.

The Downtown Dubai, located adjacent to Burj Khalifa, will be the start and end point for Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2013. The starts for 10km Road Race and 3km Fun Run will be from the same gantry location just up from the Burj Khalifa outside the Pavilion. The finish area for the race will be through the same finish gantry location (for both 10km road run and 3km fun rum) opposite of road from start gantry.

There will be live bands and DJs at the Marathon Village on the Burj Park all through the day to entertain participants and spectators. Further, there will be food and beverage amenities and other necessary amenities in the area surrounding the park.

The race is a major attraction for sports lovers who gather to watch and support runners, as majority of the participants in the 10km and 3km races, participate to raise funds for local and international charities.

The total prize money for the marathon is USD1million, with the first place winners being given USD250,000, and this makes it the largest prize for distance running.

Registrations for the 2013 events are now open, with closing date for registrations being on 31st December 2012.
