Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2014

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister and Vice President of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is one of the first sporting events on the city’s calendar. Every year the marathon is so scheduled, so as to take advantage of the cool winter temperature, and this year, it will be on Friday, the 24th January 2014.

Ever-since the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon began in the year 2000, the sport has grown bigger each year, drawing several local and global sponsors. The race is a major attraction for people who come to watch and a support to the runners, with several of the 10km and 3km participants run to raise money for local and international charities. The prize money for winners ranges from USD8000 to USD 200,000.

Participants will have three races to participate in. The 42km race open only to 18 year olds, the 10km race which is open only to 15 years or older runners, and the 3km race which is open to all.

The entry fee for 42km race is Dh.440, for 10km race it is Dh.220 and for 3km it is about Dh.55. For participation in the race, the participants will have to register in advance (registration closes on 31st December 2013), collect their own run number in person and provide proof of identity. All participants in the race will receive an Adidas Climacool official race t/shirt, a finisher’s medal and a finisher’s certificate.

Drinking water stations will be provided every 2.5km from 5km to 40km and at the finish. The water stations will be provided at the 5km point and at the finish, while the 3km fun run will be provided at the finish.
