The Burj Dubai, currently being constructed alongside
Shaikh Zayed Road, will be the tallest building in the world
when it is completed in 2008. There will be more than 160 floors
to the Emaar building, which is likely to reach a height of
more than 700 metres.
Lower down the building will house and exclusive Armani Hotel,
while further up will be hundreds of exclusive apartments and
prestigious offices. There will also be high-class restaurants
and gyms inside the building. The Burj Dubai Downtown complex
which will include Dubai Mall - the largest shopping
mall in the world, sitting alongside the massed skyscrapers
of Dubai's most impressive road. Shaikh Zayed Road was a part
of more than 21 road projects that started in 1984. It runs
through Dubai up to the border of Abu Dhabi. Classified as a
highway, it has 13 interchanges to ease traffic flow. More than
200,000 vehicles use the road daily on some days of the year.
The centerpiece of the Burj Dubai Downtown development
is the Burj Dubai's itself, which is now dozens of storey high
and will eventually be the world's tallest building, dwarfing
anything else in Dubai. Once completed, the Burj Dubai Downtown
development will contain tens of thousands of residences and
will be a city within a city alongside Shaikh Zayed Road.
Already opened across the road from the Burj Dubai Downtown
development is the Al Murooj complex, which includes a five
star hotel as well as luxury apartments.
