Meydan horse racecourse opens tonight

The Dh 10bn historic Meydan grandstand and racecourse, home to the worlds richest horse race, considered as Dubais gift to the world, will open tonight with the first race meeting of Dubai International Racing Carnival.

The Chairman of the Board and CEO, Saeed Al Tayer, said that the facilities for the race were ready sometime back. Trials have been conducted and have been found to be good. The future of the racing will be strengthened with the introduction of Meydan. The project is a landmark for Dubai and UAE, apart from the game itself.

The meeting to be held today will culminate with the staging of the Dubai World Cup on 27th March with $10mn offered for the feature race. All components, irrespective of those related to the project, including the Grand stone and Meydan hotel will be completed.

Within next few weeks, the progress of the project can be noted. Specialists have been hired to view this enterprise both as a clinic and model, and positive assessments have been made, Al Tayer said.

The Meydan grandstand is the world’s largest at 1.6kms or equivalent of 22 Boeing 747s.
