Citizens of 34 nations exempted from one month visa waiting period

Citizens of 34 nations have been exempted from the one-month waiting period before applying for a visit visa to re-enter UAE after leaving the emirate, said a senior official at the Interior Ministry.

As per the present regulation, visitors who leave the UAE even after a day's stay here will have to wait for a month before they apply for a visit visa to re-enter the emirate.

Maj. Gen. Nasser Al Awadi Al Mehali, acting Assistant Undersecretary at the Interior Ministry for Naturalization, Residency and Borders, said that citizens of nations who need to obtain an entry permit to enter the country through any one of the residency departments will not be able to apply for another visa immediately after leaving the country.

He emphasized that even if the visitors stay in the UAE for just 2 days and leave the country, they can come back after a month. There is no multiple entry visit visa. A visitor who goes on a vacation to a nearby country, and wants to come back, he will have to wait for a month before returning here.

Maj. Gen. Al Menhali said that these rules are applicable only to people who need to apply for a visa prior to entering the UAE. However, there are citizens of 34 countries who do not need a visa in advance. The citizens of these countries can get visa on arrival in the UAE.

“Once the visa is issued to citizens of these nations, they can come back to the UAE any time they like. These citizens need to show their passport to the immigration officer at the country’s borders and can get a new visa stamped. They can come and go as many times they want,” he added.

He clarified that this regulation is not a new one. This is announced only because few people are of the opinion that they can re-enter UAE any time after they visit the UAE and leave, as their visa has not expired yet. However, they will have to wait for a month before applying for a new visa.

Maj. Gen. Al Menhali emphasized that even if a visitor stays in UAE for a day and leaves, the visa will still be considered expired even if the expiry date is actually at a later date.

The one month period is calculated from the day of entry of the person into UAE and the day the person leaves the country.

However, businessmen who need to enter and exit the country several times can opt for a multiple-entry visa with six months validity.
