New residency department to offer quick services to nationals

The General department of Residency (GDR) announced the launch of a new department on Sunday to offer quick services exclusively to UAE nationals.

GDR, also known as Abu Dhabi Department of Naturalisation and Residency, till date, aims to ease procedures and offer quick services to UAE nationals.

The services on the offer include issuance of passport, including new family member into the document, getting family book and other such services, said Maj. Gen. Nasser Al Awadi Al Minhali, Assistant Undersecretary of Naturalization, Residency and Border Control Offices.

The department is located in the same premises of the GDR. The same services were provided by a smaller section working under the GDR till date.

The average time to issue a passport henceforth will be one hour, while citizens could pay an urgent fee to get the job done in 15 minutes, said Lt. Col. Mattar Hamad Al Shamsi, Deputy General Manager.

The two immigration sections, at Al Ain and Al Gharbia, will function under this department. The department will help in avoiding delays by accommodating more people and will therefore provide better quality of service, said Col. Al Shamsi. The officials revealed that about 10,587 new passports were issued to nationals last year.
