The Big5 Show unveiled in Dubai

The Big5 Exhibition, one of the leading international construction exhibitions in the Middle East, was inaugurated today by Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry.

The event is due to be held between the 23rd and 26th November at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center (DICEC), hosted by region’s leading venue operator Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) and is hoped to be 15 percent larger than last year’s show.

This year’s show involves participation of 3,000 exhibitors from 52 countries, ranging from regional agents and distributors. This year’s Big5 Show includes an impressive array of value elements, including presentation of the Gaia Awards 2009 and The Big5 Conference running on 24th and 25th November at Monarch Hotel, wherein the most influential people in the construction sector will gather to discuss the critical challenges faced by construction sector today.

Spanning across 40,000 square metres, the event has placed a leasing price of Dh.1,851 ($504) per square metre and 15 percent as estimated public area. The expo is hoped to generate Dh.62.8million in direct revenues.

Last year’s event saw the participation of more than 58,000 key buyers and senior officials from public and private sectors.

The construction sector in the Gulf region is continuing to grow, despite the odds following global financial crunch, states latest reports in the industry. Research has shown that in the UAE alone 7,231 projects are still under construction, including residential, commercial, medical, hospitality, and educational sectors, with 1000 projects in pipeline for this year alone.
