ID Cards mandatory for all Interior Ministry services in UAE
All services of Interior Ministry, except visa renewal will require ID cards issued by the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), it has been announced.
Therefore, beginning 22nd November, all residents of Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, including nationals and expats, will have to produce the ID Card to complete all services of Interior Ministry such as vehicle registration and renewal.
Expatriates in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are however, exempt from the decision for the time being. However, the authorities are finalizing the decision for expatriates in these emirates, and the details will be announced soon.
The Interior Ministry has ordered members of the public to register and complete formalities required for obtaining the ID cards at the earliest to avoid any inconveniences.
On failing to provide ID cards, the public will not be able to avail any government transactions, although no fines are being announced for the time being.
According to the Law of Population Register and Identity Card, it is mandatory for all citizens and expatriates of UAE over the age of 15, to obtain an ID card for identification in various transactions.
EIDA is co-ordinating with the Finance Ministry to consolidate its e-dirham into the ID card. The Authority has also partnered with Interior Minister to permit use of ID cards at e-gates at airports across the country.
When all nationals and expatriates have ID cards, its scope will be expanded further for services like health and labour cards and driver licenses.
