Emaar announces Burj Dubai opening date
Burj Dubai, the tallest skyscraper in the world, will open 2nd December, the project developers have committed. The opening falls on the 38th National Day of the UAE.
The Chairman of Emaar Properties, Mohammed Alabbar, mentioned that last minute touches are being done. There are 12,000 people inside the building and outside, trying to make it up for the 2nd December opening.
According to Alabbar, all units in Burj Dubai were sold out well before the Dubai property slump which hit the market in September 2008.
However, property prices in Downtown Burj Dubai area have always been higher than in other localities, given, the high-quality development and surroundings. Burj Dubai is still doing much better than other locations as far as sales are concerned, although the prices have softened, Alabaar said.
Construction of Burj Dubai, which stands tall at 800 metres, over the Business Bay, began on 21st September 2004, as part of the $20-billion Downtown Burj Dubai real estate development. The opening of this flagship project faced several delays thereafter. It was originally planed to open last September, and it is yet to be watched, in fact, if it would open by end of 2009. The 162-storey tower, with glass cladding which contributes its metallic sheen in the sun, aims to be Dubai’s signature.
