Construction activities in the UAE gather pace

Construction activity is gradually gathering pace in UAE, as one of the leading building material importer and distributor group, the Mohammad Ibrahim Haii (MIH) Group, has reported 20 percent growth this year.

The CEO of MIH Group, Mian Mohammad Muneer, said that despite the global economic crunch, the group has been able to record 20 percent growth in terms of sales and demand for building material supplies.

The building material prices, which fell by nearly 50 percent during the last quarter of last year, have grown by 5 percent. This seems to be a healthy indication, as the increase in demand for building material supplies could surely be due to the revival of construction activities, he pointed out.

The CEO mentioned that although the construction activities were progressing well in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, there has also been a surge in building material supplies in Dubai during recent times.

Being one of the leading importers, distributors and retailers of building materials in the UAE with a vast variety of about 13,000 building materials, it has about 35 branches, with 22 in the UAE, and 13 in Oman.

The company now plans to expand to other GCC countries with the opening of atleast 10 branches of the MIH Group across Saudi Arabia by 2010. The company also plans to enter Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain markets, apart from launching its global operations by 2012. Headquartered in Al Ain, the group is now planning for greater presence in Dubai as well, with its aggressive marketing strategies.
