The first Dubai Metro greeted with happy smiles
Dubai residents took a detour from their daily routes to catch the first train, the 6am Metro, out of the 10 Metro stations that opened on Wednesday.
While the first train pulled into the Al Rashidiya station, the anxious commuters made a dash for their ticket counters and scurried into platform one. Apart from a few teething problems, the first journey was an enjoyable ride for one and all.
Al Awadhi of Emirates Airline, who was one of the commuters in the Metro, spoke to media and mentioned that he took a day off from his job as a pilot to ride on the first train, and added that soon the Metro will fulfil all its promises.
In comparison of Dubai Metro with that of other countries, the price, the architecture and design is far superior, he commented.
As the sliding doors opened for the commuters, they were greeted by an electronic announcement and smiling attendants offering passengers their seat. As the train moved in and out of underground stations and cruised over elevated tracks, the familiar skyscrapers looked larger, and the commuters described the view as ‘breathtaking’. Several commuters stayed on till the end of the ride.
Although the day began with a silence at mid-stations, the commuters with the intention of reaching their workplace on time filled the compartments during peak hours. The commuters were happy that they could avoid the work stress and could use the time to read a book, listen to music or work during the journey.
The milestone journey ended at the Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station. The commuters who alighted the train had a content look on their faces and expressed satisfaction about the infrastructure and cleanliness.
