New codeshare deal offers better accessibility to US destinations

Following the regulatory approval of a new codeshare agreement between American Airlines and Etihad Airways, air travelers in the UAE can enjoy greater access to the destinations in the US.

The new agreement will be effective this week, coinciding with the launch of Chicago flights by Etihand Airways on 2nd September. The service will then be expanded to six flights per week from 1st November, before being converted into a daily service at the start of New Year.

Etihad Airways flies to Toronto, New York in North America, at present.

The American Airlines, American Eagle, and the American Connection airlines serve 250 cities in more than 40 countries.

The codeshare agreement further extends the global networks of both airlines by offering easy access between Abu Dhabi and major cities in the United States, including Los Angeles, Washington, Houston and San Francisco.

Etihad Airways will place its “EY” code on several transatlantic services operated in the US carrier between United States and Europe, apart from a few chose domestic services operated by American Airlines apart from Chicago and New York.

The American Airlines will place its ‘AA’ code on services operated by Etihad between Abu Dhabi and Paris, Chicago, New York, Manchester, Dublin, Frankfurt and Milan.

The domestic routes within the US by American Airlines, covered by the new codeshare arrangement will initially include flights between New York and Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and flights between Chicago and Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston.
