Fingerprint Identification System applicable to Residence Visa seekers
The Residency departments across the country will manage a fingerprint identification system, and database for all residents in the country, a senior official revealed.
Beginning next month, applicants for residence visa will be fingerprinted under a secure biometric system to offer more secure identification and prevent fraud, Maj. Gen. Nasser Al Awadi Al Minhali, Acting Director-General of Federal Naturalization and Residency Department said.
Fresh applicants for residence visas can get their fingerprints taken prior to medical check-up to ensure they have no criminal record. Those found charged with criminal records will not be granted visa and will be handed over to the police for legal action, al Minhali said.
The residents in the country will be fingerprinted on applying for renewal of their visa. This move will eventually be applicable to all residents in the country, including workers sponsored by employers, domestic workers, investors, and parents of residents.
Fingerprinting services will be available at Naturalization and Residency departments across the country.
The categories covered under the scheme are – Employment Visa, Residence Visa, Investor Visa, and visas for domestic help.
