New taxi service to link Sharjah and Dubai for Dh 4

Under a new scheme introduced by Sharjah Taxi, even low-income groups can travel to Dubai from Sharjah by taxi.

The Director of Sharjah Taxi, Jasem Al Beloushi, said that a new shared taxi service has been launched, which can accommodate up to seven passengers. Each passenger will have to pay only Dh.4 to go to any three destinations in Dubai.

The low-fare taxis will begin their trip from National Paints roundabout and drop passengers at Al Qusais Industrial Area, Jamal Abdul Nasser square in Deira and Al Quoz Industrial Area. The National Paints terminal has been chosen, as several residents in the area cannot afford to use the regular taxis.

Sharjah Taxi will use eight vehicles for the new service, with plans to commit an additional 30 vehicles by January. Sharjah Taxi is the only franchise company that offers shared taxi service.

If people intend to save costs, they had to take the inter-emirate bus for Dh.5. The new service will enable them to get to their destination faster, by paying Dh.1 less, Al-Baloushi commented.

Similar services will also be launched to two new destinations in Ajman by September. The taxis to Ajman will begin at the main taxi terminal in Al Rolla, and drop off the passengers at Ajman City Center and Industrial Area, he added.

Sharjah Taxi also plans to strengthen its overall fleet, by including an additional 100 vehicles for operations in July.
