Dubai Municipality clarifies the One Villa, One Family concept

Speaking about the One Villa, One Family rule, a top civil official in Dubai, yesterday, clarified that there is No such rule in Dubai, and it is just that the campaign against overcrowded villas is being misunderstood.

The Director General of Dubai Municipality, Hussain Nasser Lootah, said that the Municipality began such a campaign against the over-crowding in villas to ensure safety of its residents. The campaign was aimed to put an end to high numbers of people living in villas that were otherwise, meant for smaller numbers.

Depending on the size of the villa, five to eight people in a villa are acceptable, but not 20 to 30 people, he clarified.

Over-crowding threatens the civic services and creates security and safety problems. There is bound to be over-flowing sewage, parking and water shortages, garbage accumulation, and such other issues, leading to a lot of social implications, he explained.

The Municipality is not against more than one family living in a villa, provided, the villas is big enough. However, landlords and tenants are not free to take a decision on this issue, as several landlords are greedy and try to make money by renting villas to maximum number of people.

The One Villa, One Family campaign, which began in 2005, mainly aims to provide a clean environment.
