Expatriate professionals granted amnesty for National ID card registrations

Expatriate professionals in Abu Dhabi can keep registering for their identity cards even after expiry of the deadline of 31st December 2008.

The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) issued an amnesty notice, which states that fines will not be imposed on expatriate professionals who are unable to get their ID cards before end of December.

“Although, the deadline will not be extended, we would continue to accept registrations even after the deadline, but at the cost of certain inconveniences,” said Darwish Ahmad Al Zarouni, Director General of EIDA.

However, UAE nationals will not be able to avail any services without the ID, effective 1st January 2009, according to the law.

The reprieve is not an extension of the deadline, as EIDA would commence registration for another category of expatriates from 1st January as per plan.
