Mall of Emirates to undergo major expansion
The Mall of Emirates in Dubai will undergo its largest ever expansion, with about Dh.500mn investments being done on the new space, it has been announced.
The project will lead to additional amenities for shopping, dining and parking, and will be ready by the first quarter of 2010.
The expansion plan was announced by the Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Group, the group that operates the mall.
Ever-since its launch in 2005, the Mall of Emirates, located in the heart of New Dubai, has turned out to be a landmark destination for the residents and growing tourist community in the region.
The mall was voted as the Superbrands “Brands of the Year”, and also received an award for the “Best Mall” at the Grazia Style Awards.
This new expansion programme will add several important amenities to the mall structure, including an additional 10,500 square meters of gross leasable area for retailers and other service providers, increased parking space for accommodating 750 vehicles, and a direct link for Dubai Metro commuters.
Fuad Mansoor Sharaf, the Vice-President, Mall of Emirates, said that this major investment for favourite shopping destination is imperative to meet the huge demand from newer retailers, seeking a presence in the mall. With about 2.4million visitors a month, there is no doubt that more retailers would want to be part of the Mall of Emirates.
The Mall of emirates is home to more than 460 retailers, and currently incorporates various iconic brands, including, SkiDubai, the first indoor ski resort and snow park in the Middle East, apart from Kempinski Mall of Emirates and a five-star hotel.
This new building is likely to further expand the luxury brand portfolio of the Mall of the Emirates. The development will be carried out in phases, beginning with the mall extension. This will be followed by upgrading of car parking, and the Metro link access, which is hoped to be complete by September 2009, to coincide with the scheduled opening of new service, Sharaf said.
