Abu Dhabi builds residential cities to house 800,000 workers
Zones-Corp (Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones) has announced plans to construct housing units with a capacity to accommodate about 800,000 workers of various sectors by the year 2012. Zones-Corp is the authority meant for establishment and management of Industrial Cities in Abu Dhabi, wherein there are specialized clusters of industries being set.
This new planned facility will help cater to the increasing shortage of worker accommodation in the industrial belt of Abu Dhabi.
The Zones-Corp Chairman and Chairman of the Court of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said the construction of residential cities for laborers and workers in Abu Dhabi depicts human values and the response of the government towards international laws that seek allotment of a decent living conditions for all types of laborers and workers in the UAE.
He revealed that Zones-corp has been specifically chosen to build these residential cities so as to include different types of limited-income workers in the construction and industrial sectors in Abu Dhabi.
The units with a capacity to accommodate about 40,000 workers will be ready by 2010, out of which, 122,000 units will be dedicate to limited-income workers. Single and double- bedroom accommodation will be given to house engineers, technicians, supervisors, and workers in industrial and construction sectors.
These cities will be further divided into permanent cities for industrial sector, temporary cities for construction sector. 40 percent of workers will stay in permanent residential cities, and 20 percent will be accommodated in temporary residential cities. Apart from this, fast temporary complexes will be built in the Al Faya area for workers in the construction sector alone, to meet the high demand in the labor market.
Zones-corp plans to acquire new plots to construct new residential cities for laborers and workers through private investments. Being administered by the government, the rent prices of the cities will be highly competitive and as per the conditions by Zonescorp, investors will be permitted to manage these complexes and cities.
