IHG rolls out world’s first green Hotel

The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has launched the world’s first ever 100% green hotel.

The solar powered Innovation Hotel, outlines the latest technology in energy and water conservation and recycling, and the green credentials of the hotel will set a benchmark for hoteliers around the world.

The green features of the futuristic hotel includes use of all non-perishable food to charities or food banks, rainwater harvesting system to supply water to toilets, solar panels on the roof to heat water, roof garden with rich shrubbery to provide extra insulation, recycled glass windows, windpower to generate electricity for hotel, household waste to provide heat and power, and furnitute and fittings made entirely from recycled materials.

The hotel chiefs claim that the Innovation Hotel’s features could be set as standard across all IHG brands with the next few years.

The Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at IHG, Jerome, said “We have established excellent examples of responsible tourism already underway in our hotels. Now we are looking at setting company-wide goals for our business to deliver real benefits to the environment, on the basis of clear understanding that can make a world of difference on the needs of our guests.”

IHG, owner of Holiday Inn, has about 200 new Holiday Inn prototypes open or under construction current. Most of these consume fewer materials to build, and requires 20percent lesser energy to run.

The Innovative Hotel initiative will surely place IHG as the first hotel group to roll-out its ‘green’ credentials company-wide.
