Dubai International Airport surpasses Singapore Changi Airport
The Dubai International Airport has surpassed Changi Airport Singapore in terms of total passenger numbers during the first quarter of this year, thereby becoming the sixth largest aviation hub in the world, preceded by Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris and London.
The Dubai International Airport has handled 9.34mn passengers during the first quarter this year, surpassing 9.32mn passengers who passed through Changi’s gates, reported the Asia Pacific Aviation in its regional outlook report for 2008.
The Dubai International Airport has been successful in attracting foreign airlines. About 124 airlines pass through the Dubai Airport to 207 destinations, while Changi has only 80 airlines flying to 188 destinations.
According to the report, the traffic at Dubai airport is growing three times faster than the Changi airport.
The passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport increased by 15.11 percent during the first quarter of the year, as against the same period last year. If the current passenger growth rate is maintained, the airport will be successful in achieving its target of 40 million passengers towards the end of the year.
The Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and the President of Emirates Airline, have predicted a passenger throughput of 40million at the Dubai International Airport in 2008.
