UAE likely to have a new Capital City
The UAE will have a new Capital City by the year 2028, as Abu Dhabi urban strategy framework has unrolled development plans to materialize the plan.
The Khalifa City near Abu Dhabi, which is likely to be developed, will be a contemporary Arab City which reflects a sustainable economy rather than uncontrolled growth, reported a UAE daily.
The design work for the new capital is already underway. The Capital city will spread across an area of 4900 hectares and will be located nearly 15kms away from Abu Dhabi city, the newspaper quoted.
The Director of Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning Council, Falah Al Ahbabi, said that the new city will be able to accommodate about three million people in less than 25 years.
To decrease the burden on Abu Dhabi City, the headquarters of all federal authorities, local government offices and ministries will be relocated to the new city.
The City will also house office space and residential units, so as to meet the growing demand for Abu Dhabi commercial and residential property space.
The development plan for Abu Dhabi (Plan Abu Dhabi 2030) was launched last year. The urban development strategy offers a framework for the UAE capital to guide planning decisions.
According to the plan, the population of the city is projected to grow from 930,000 to more than three million by 2030.
