More business travelers drawn towards Abu Dhabi



The Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, unveiled the second Gulf Incentives, Business, Travel and Meetings Exhibition (GIBTM) in Abu Dhabi.

The event generated great curiosity in the Gulf and international tourism sectors, which is evident by the growth in exhibitors, and overall attendance numbers of visitors and hosted buyers that gathered for this year event, in comparison to the inaugural edition last year.

Sheikh Sultan pointed out that GIBTM has a catalytic impact on the development of the emirate, and that the MICE tourism is the most lucrative among the other high-growth segments in global tourism industry.

According to Sheikh Sultan, this wide interest generated by GIBTM is a positive milestone towards implementation of the strategic plans by the Government of Abu Dhabi, with particular emphasis being laid on development of tourism infrastructure. The plan lays particular focus on luxury and leisure amenities and services that showcase the emirate as a high-end and sustainable tourism destination.

All indicators reveal that the future of business and MICE tourism will be a true success, and will play a vital role in overall transformation of the emirate into a leading tourism destination.

Abu Dhabi played host to more than 197 international companies that participated in last year’s event.

There has been a substantial increase in the number of participating companies this year, which stands at 215 from 50 countries. According to Shaikh Sultan, the tourism has started gaining prime importance during the last few years, in the light of current trends to diversify the sources of income in the emirate.
