UAE achieves fifth position in transactional services
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) eGovernment survey has ranked the UAE in the fifth position in terms of transactional service, just behind the developed countries in Denmark, US, Norway, and Sweden.
The survey has also placed UAE in the 32nd position, among the 192 UN Member States in the 2008 eGovernment Readiness Index. The UAE also has the highest web measure index, with the country has been placed in the 12th position, making its online presence of national websites and selected ministries.
This emphasizes the commitment of the country in achieving the highest standards of eGovernance excellence. Citing the example of the UAE Labour Ministry’s website, the survey, referred to it as a ‘one-stop-shop’ where visitors could avail of transactional features such as payment by credit card, online submission of forms and permits, creation of personal accounts etc. The site responds to online inquiries within a specific period of time, and is one of the few sites to incorporate electronic signature.
The Dubai eGovernment Director, Salem Al Shair said “These major achievements are a result of hard work and dedication of all eGovernment units in the UAE, and I appreciate the efforts of IT team in all ministries, particularly, the Ministry of Labour, for such a robust contribution towards eGovernance framework of UAE. While this is a moment to be proud of, we should not get complacent, as there is lot more to be achieved in this domain ahead.”
