British portal ranks Abu Dhabi as a the top-ten tourist destination in the world

One of the largest online travel agents in UK, Expedia, has chosen Abu Dhabi, as one of the top ten destinations in the world that is worth visiting in 2008. This could be considered as a development, which is likely to further boost the emirate’s popularity among global tourists, who are high net-worth individuals.

An Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) official commented that, this is a fantastic development, as there is a lot of competition among global cities to be a part of this list.

ADTA is the apex body that manages the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi, the responsibility of which, includes, marketing, infrastructure and product development, regulation and classification.

The British travel agent revealed that Abu Dhabi ranks among other places such as Argentina, New Zealand, China, Alaska, Cape, Reykjavik, Boston, Berlin and Liverpool.

The agent said that Abu Dhabi is one of the few places to have undergone a remarkable change over the past fifty years. Visitors get to enjoy the desert safaris, beaches, and the variety is more than sufficient for those looking out for retail therapy.

Abu Dhabi is on an ambitious plan to attract about three million tourists each year, by 2015. The Abu Dhabi Executive Council in its policy agenda states that tourism is a critical element in the overall development of Abu Dhabi. This will further stimulate and diversify the economy, generating new opportunities for private sector and will further increase the international standing of the Emirate.
