Private Sector employees demand pay-hike to keep pace with high inflation

The private sector employees in Dubai and Abu Dhabi claim that an increase in salary is the need of the hour, taking into consideration the current inflation rate.

A mechanism should be worked out to ensure that the salaries of private sector employees are increased in accordance with cost of living, pointed out Harris Mohammad, an Indian Salesman.

"High cost of living affects both private sector and government sector employees alike, and hence a reasonable increment for private sector employees too, is a must," said Marwan Sayed, a Lebanese Manager.

An Assistant Engineer working in a private firm, Hothaifa Al Khayat, who recently received a hike of Dh.1500 lamented that with the mounting prices, such increments seem irrelevant. Now with increase in public sector life, things will get more expensive, and families in low-income cadre, will suffer, and struggle to make ends meet.

An Emirati VIP Clinic Supervisor, Qamar Al Khalifa, said "Private companies should review their salary structure and give us a better increment, as we have reached a point, where we feel totally demoralized and we feel we do not earn what we deserve."

An Indian employee Relations Manager, Benny Varghese, mentioned that a pay-hike would be the most pleasant news for anyone, at this time of high inflation and low money value. He however added that, keeping in mind the present scenario, an increase will lead to further financial imbalance in the society, and the living conditions of low-income group could get worse.
