Dubai tourism contributes thirty percent of GDP
It is said that three out of four people in Dubai are tourists, residing in one of the 420 hotels or serviced apartments in Dubai and the remaining one, being a resident.
The hotel apartments and hotels in Dubai played host to 6.5 million guests during the previous year with revenues exceeding Dh.11 billion. Dubai, being a city with 1.4 million residents, this turns out to a gigantic 464 percent, which is 4.64 times the ratio of tourists to resident.
The overall contribution of tourism in Dubai’s economy has raised by thirty percent, overtaking the contribution of real estate, oil and construction services.
Dubai, with 285 hotels, and 135 serviced apartments and 35000 rooms, has generated Dh.96.8billion worth of economic activity last year, which is expected to grow to Dh.170.7 billion by the year 2016, according to WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council).
According to WTTC, the UAE is ranked as the 38th of the174 economies, and there is a growth of five percent in the tourism sector of UAE between 2007 and 2016, which is higher than the global average growth of four percent.
Tourism and travel sector has generated 8.3percent of total exports, which is expected to grow to Dh.62billion by 2016. The capital investment in travel and tourism sector is estimated to exceed Dh.30billion, which by the year 2016 is expected to reach Dh.55.2billion, according to WTTC.
The travel and tourism employment has given rise to 294,000 jobs in the UAE during the previous year, which is 11.7 percent of total employment or one out of every eight jobs.
