Mobile TV and the Internet TV revolution in UAE

Etisalat and Du, the two mobile operators in the UAE, have already launched a mobile TV service and viewers can expect more from the regional operators.

GlobeCast, a subsidiary of the French telecom giant Orange said it plans to distribute all the Arab TV channels hosted on Arabsat to European and US viewers.

There are talks with Arabsat to find additional distribution channels for the Arab TV channels hosted in Arabsat satellites. The deal will benefit Arab channels, to get more viewers from the western countries.

Mobile operators will get more revenue and viewers. Currently delivering more than 100 television and radio channels to Orange’s mobile TV bouquets in France, Switzerland and the UK. Our mobile TV is avail able only on the third generation (3G) handsets. Just launched our mobile TV service in the US where it was well received.

Analysts predict that the mobile TV market will have more than 100 million active users by 2010. UK analyst firm Visiongain predicts there will be 270 million European 3G subscribers, who will be able to get TV services on their mobile handsets by 2009.

Phunebox, a new company in Dubai Media City is in talks with mobile companies and TV stations in the region to deliver programmes through mobile phones – on handsets made since 1996.
