According to Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report for the year 2007, UAE has the best environment for development of the travel and tourism sector in the Arab world. UAE was ranked the 18th position, much ahead of other well-established tourism locations such as Portugal, Cyprus and Greece in the 124 country survey, which was released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva.
While Tunisia, Jordan, Qatar and Bahrain were among the top four list of Arab nations, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Iceland, United States, Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore, Luxemborg and UK made up the top ten in the world. The rankings are given on the basis of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) constituting 124 countries throughout the world.
The data provided by TTCI is a combination of data from public sources, results of Executive Opinion Survey, International T&T institutions and experts, annual survey carried out by World Economic Forum and its Partners in the countries covered by the report. The survey also gives details of data on many institutional and business environment issues.
The TTCI gives these results after taking into consideration various policies and factors pertaining to various countries that make them attractive for development of tourism, which includes – environmental regulations, policy regulations and rules, health and hygiene, safety and security, air transport infrastructure, prioritization of Dubai travel and tourism, tourism infrastructure, ground transport infrastructure, ICT (information and communication technology), human capital, natural and cultural resources, national tourism perception and price competitiveness.
