Work commences on initial phase of internal road expansions
The Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded two contracts for construction of internal roads at Al Qusais 3 and Al Quoz 4 worth Dh38mn.
The project forms the initial phase of the five-year plan (2012-2016), as per the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, making internal roads, covering five residential communities, namely Hatta, Al Qusais 3, Al Quoz 2, 3 and 4, said Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA Chairman.
The construction works are due to begin this week, and the project will be completed by first half of 2013, the Dubai RTA said.
The project signals the beginning of a road network expansion drive, worth more than $272mn. The expansion comes when Dubai seeks to meet the challenges posed by its growing demographic and urban growth.
The construction of internal roads at Al Quoz 4 includes construction of roads extending eight kilometres, with lighting and parking works, apart from storm water drainage services, all worth a total cost of $4.08mn.
Earlier this month, the RTA awarded a contract for construction of internal roads at Al Warqaa 1, 2, 3 and 4 worth about $42.64mn. The project included construction and lighting works of roads stretching 125km and involving construction of roads stretching 89km and improvements made on existing roads stretching 36kms.
It also involves construction of parking slots, parking works for few Mosques and public schools in the area, and all necessary road works, such as traffic signals and road marking.
The Five Year Plan for Constructing Internal Roads at residential districts in Dubai includes construction of internal roads in 16 areas. The Phase I of the project is worth $40.8mn, covering five residential communities. The Phase II will begin next year, and costs about $38.11mn, covering areas of Muhaisna 2, and Al Barsha South 1 and 2. The Phase III will begin in 2014, costing $35.39mn and will cover three districts, namely, Al Mamzar, Al Nahdah 1 and Oud Mateena 2.
The Phase IV of the project will be in 2015, worth 438mn, covering Nad El Sheba 4, Oud Mateena 1 and Khadwaneej 2. The Phase V will begin in 2016, and cost $68.06mn, covering road works in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1, Al Qusais Industrial Area 3, 4 and 5, and Al Awir 1.
