National ID Cards to be linked to Visas from April 2012

Beginning 1st April 2012, Dubai will link National Identity Cards to Visas, it has been announced.

The Emirates National Identity Authority (EIDA), is currently carrying out a nation-wide project, and has emphasized that the applicants will not receive their cards prior to issuance/renewal of their residence visas.

Those applying for an ID and Residence simultaneously, should first fill in an application at the EIDA registration office, after which, they will be allowed to have a blood test, a pre-requisite for having visa renewed/issued.

The ID card and Residence Visa link-up is almost complete, after which, it has been enforced in all emirates, except in Dubai. This link will now be implemented in Dubai, during April this year, in co-ordination with residence and immigration department in the emirate, the EIDA said in a statement.

On completion of the link-up, EIDA will permit its registration offices at preventive medicine departments to handle nearly 22,000 applications a day.
