Abu Dhabi to get new industrial zones

Abu Dhabi is developing new industrial zones in Madina Zayed and Ruwais in the Western Region, apart from an automobile zone, a top official said.


The Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Hassan Al Qamsi, when speaking to investors said that The Abu Dhabi Executive Council has drawn plans for two industrial cities, and has received approval from Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Free Zones.


According to Al Qamsi, studies are now being undertaken by the corporation for three additional industrial cities – Marine Industries, Building Material City, and Services City, and a Centre for Logistic Services.


Currently, studies are in their final stages, and the corporation has sufficient lands to begin them, he said. The corporation supports the opinion and endeavour of Department of Economic Development, aiming to shift Abu Dhabi’s economic activity from an oil-reliant economy into knowledge-based diverse economy, focused on development of industrial sector.


He also said that corporation is working towards promoting local investments and drawing foreign investments to its diverse zones, so as to meet requirements of local Emirati and regional markets.
