Nakheel to open new shopping mall at Palm Jumeirah to woo tourists

Nakheel aims to woo more tourists and residents into the Palm Jumeirah, with the opening of a new shopping mall.

Located at the edge of Palm Jumeirah across the bay from Atlantis Hotel, and spreading across 136,000 square meters, The Pointe will focus on its food, beverage and leisure offering. Some other noteworthy features of the mall are the computer-controlled fountains, monorail access, public walk and boat rides between The Pointe and Atlantis Hotel.

This will prove to be a real tourist destination not just for the Palm residents, but also visitors. More ideas to improve the growth of Palm Jumeirah will be announced in second half of 2012, said Ali Rashid Lootah, Chairman, Nakheel.

The project is hoped to be ready towards end of 2013. Nakheel will also soon begin work on the other retail offerings of Palm Jumeirah, including the Palm Mall, with adds nearly 800,000 to 900,000 square feet of leasable retail space to the development.

Lootah revealed that in 2012, Nakheel will focus on developing its retail offerings. It had already revealed plans of expanding its Dragon Mart Mall and Ibn Battuta Mall. Nakheel is also on track to deliver 7000 units a year. It has announced handing over of 1000 villas at Jumeirah Village.
