Dubai Airports to cross the historical 50mn annual passenger traffic in 2011
Dubai Airports is likely to surpass an historical 50million annual traffic this year, as it recorded a 8.9percent growth in passenger traffic in November.
Dubai International Airport, the world’s fourth busiest airport, has touched 46.29 million passenger traffic last month (Jan to Nov 2011), which reflects a 7.8 percent growth over the corresponding period last year. The passenger traffic in November 2011 alone was 4.43mn, in comparison to just 4.07mn recorded in November 2010.
With an average monthly traffic of 4.2mn, passengers during the first 11 months of 2011, the Dubai Airport is well on track to cross the historical 50mn figure in annual traffic this year, said Jamal Al Hai, Executive Senior Vice President for International Affairs and Communications at Dubai Airports.
Dubai International is already among the top five busiest hub for international passengers, and this milestone further confirms the strength of Dubai’s aviation model.
According to analysts, the Dubai International witnessed growth in passenger traffic, as the emirate benefits from tourism, amidst unrest in some parts of the Middle East. Strong demand for air travel within the GCC is another reason behind this growth in figures.
The Chief Analyst at London-based Strategic Aero Research, Saj Ahmad, said that growth in Dubai Airports, both in November and year to date is a strong indication about the demand for air travel both to and from the GCC.
Ahmad further said that with major support by Emirates and growth by Flydubai, the airport is still continuing to draw millions of passengers through its doors, despite the economic recession seen in Europe and United States.
