Dh 1bn allocated for internal road projects in residential areas of Dubai

The Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved a Dh 1bn five-year plan for paving internal roads in several residential areas in Dubai.


The five-plan, being implemented under the leadership of RTA (Roads and Transport Authority), is an indication of the determination to improve the road networks, and to cope with growing urban development in Dubai.


The plan, involves 16 residential areas, with percentage of urban development being 20 to 80 percent, said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA. In certain areas such as Al-Aweer 1, the percentage is as low as 5percent.


With an estimated cost of Dh.150mn, the phase one of the project will begin in five areas, wherein the drainage system has been completed, and urban development exceeds 50 percent.


The phase two is due to begin in 2013, with three residential areas, worth Dh.140mn. Phase III and IV will commence in 2014 and 2015 respectively, and is worth Dh.270mn. The Phase V of the project will begin in 2016 and is worth Dh.250mn, Al-Tayer revealed.
