EIDA to implement new online ID cards registration process
The launch of e-registration forms for the ID cards will begin from 1st January, after which, the applicants seeking to register in the UAE need not stand in long queues at registration centres, the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) has announced.
The first phase of the e-form will be for nationals, and it will begin on 1st January 2012. The same service will be extended to expatriates too from February 2012.
EIDA, which has been monitoring the ID card project, revealed that this new online service will enable applicants to fill up the ID application form, pay fees, and obtain an appointment for finger printing, without having to go to the registration centres. The new process is also hoped to cut down several manual errors otherwise made by registration centres.
EIDA also revealed that the total number of transactions involving registration and renewal of cards processed by the authorized typing centres exceeded 260,000 last week, with 37,000 transactions being conducted on daily basis.
All this process can be done online by logging on to www.eida.gov.ae/en and the Emirates ID centres need to be visited only for biometric screening to complete the registration process, a senior EIDA official revealed.
The Director General of Emirates ID, Dr. Ali Al Khoury, also said that once the online application system is implemented, the registration centres will begin catering to labourers, who do not have accessibility to the internet.
The existing ID card holders can also renew their cards at certified typing centres, without visiting Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) registration centres.
Another advantage of the new system is that the ID card holders whose fingerprint is already available in the Emirates ID database, need to visit the Emirates ID centre only for renewal.
