New Water Theme Park for Abu Dhabi, soon
Iceland Water Park has announced opening of its second water theme park in Abu Dhabi, following the launch of a major water theme park in RAK last year. According to senior officials at Iceland Water Park, who spoke to the media, the management has been motivated by the domestic and international tourists flocking to the largest man-made water park in the Middle East, which attracts holiday seekers and corporate clients alike.
Located in Al Hamra, Ras Al Khaimah, a part of Polo Water Park LLC, the Iceland Water Park is a $100mn recreational amenities that was opened to visitors in September 2010. The park has drawn at least 30,000 or more visitors last year, and is a much-desired holiday destination. It has the capacity to accommodate 15,000 people a day, with facilities offered being the most unique and largest in the world.
Another Water Theme Park is now being planned in Abu Dhabi, and talks are underway to finalize a deal. The new park is likely to include several rides and amenities including the largest man-made water fall, wherein 100,000 gallons of water per minute will flow from sea water distillery.
Further the CEO of the Park, Sanjeev Aluwalia, said that the group plans major expansion, following completion of RAK projects. Plans are also on to make some amendments to the RAK project, he said.
Nearly Dh.50mn has been allocated for expansion of RAK facility. The park will shortly include new ice skating rinks, with the first phase of the WOW RAK Theme Park to be ready in 2012. Among the unique water and ice ride amenities in the park, are the Acqua Soccer and Wet Football, wherein the football players get to enjoy the feel of heavy rains during the matches. At Coral Isles, the Knuckling Pool visitors can see and swim with fish. The world's largest rain dance pool has the capacity to include 6000 people at a time.
The second phase of WOW RAK includes a chalet-type seaside resort and shopping mall, including 4D theatre and ice-skating. The development is a joint venture called Polo RAK Amusement, including India's Polo Amusement Group, RAK Investment Authority (RAKIA), and RAK Properties, while investors of the planned Abu Dhabi Park are yet to be revealed.
