Ministry clarifies regarding issue of new e-passports
A senior Interior Ministry official has decided to check any further mistakes or delays in delivery of new electronic passports (e-passports) in the UAE, in future.
So far, a total of 6,298 passports have been issued so far by the Ministry to applicants from various emirates.
The Acting Deputy Assistant of Naturalisation, Residency and Border Checkpoints Department and Chairman of Special Programme aimed at boosting National Identity of UAE Nationals Abroad, said that over a trial period of 10 days, few mistakes and some delays in delivering new e-passports have been experienced. As of today, all issues pertaining to issue of new passports will be sorted out, he said when speaking during a press conference yesterday at the Ministry of Interior.
He pointed out that some nationals from northern emirates in the UAE had personally visited Abu Dhabi personally to get their passports owing to the delay. This, however, should not happen. The passports should actually be delivered to them in their respective emirates within 24 hours, he pointed out.
Al Menhali, however, clarified that nationals expect the new passports to be delivered within 30 minutes or an hour, as was the case with old passports. But, this is impossible, as the e-passports will require more control and monitoring. Therefore, people will have to remain patient after filling up all necessary information to facilitate the accurate issuance of the passports.
