No new housing fee charged: Dubai Municipality
The Dubai Municipality has denied imposing any new housing fees, and has re-iterated that there is a housing fee charged, which is five percent of the rental value of the unit leased or owned by expatriates, and no new fees has been included.
The Municipality made the clarification, owing to rumours lately about imposing new housing fees on Emiratis, which was spread through Blackberry messaging. The Municipality switchboard was flooded with calls from people to check out if this was true.
The Municipality has not imposed any housing fee on tenants, including non-citizens since 1962, the Municipality statement pointed out.
The statement also noted that it has recently launched a project called integrated e-transformation system, wherein the public can pay the housing fee along with the DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) bill. Earlier, this used to be done through Department of Economic Development, when renewing licenses and through the lease contracts of the Dubai Real Estate Department.
The first phase of this project began in 2005 with collection of fees by the newly registered contracts with DEWA. The Municipality further worked on this system, together with DEWA, during the second phase, based on the study notes on the application of the first phase of the system.
