EIDA to implement new ID card renewal system
A top official at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) has announced that all national identity card holders can soon renew their cards at certified typing centers, thereby reducing the need to visit the registration centers.
The advantage of the new card renewal system is that it enables the card holders to make a prior appointment, or check the working hours of EIDA centers, said Dr. Ali Al Khoury, the Acting General Manager at EIDA.
The new renewal system is likely to get operational next month, Al Khoury said.
Currently, the card holders are visiting the EIDA Registration Centers for renewal with separate counters set aside for the purpose.
Under the new registration system, the applicants can carry out the pre-registration process by using an e-application form, scanning identification documents and paying fee at the typing centers.
The second phase involves fixing an appointment to visit the EIDA center to submit their signature, fingerprint and photographs. But, since the ID Card holders would have already completed the second phase earlier, this is not required to be repeated, Al Khoury said.
The typing centers will complete the renewal procedure by accepting the fee and will transfer the data to EIDA, which will which will courier the new ID card.
However, few ID holders may have to visit EIDA centers in case their fingerprints stored on the EIDA system are not clear, he said.
Al Khoury said that EIDA is preparing a list of such ID card holders, and this will be made available to typing centers. The typing centers can advise the card holders to visit EIDA centers for completion of the procedures.
